Chapwani Island
Chapwani Island- 20 min by boat from Stone town
Great combination of peace, Stone Town and (small) wildlife
We caught a boat from Stone Town and after a 20 min fun ride watching the fishermen going out and the freight from mainland coming in we reached Chapwani Resort . It looked very promising with the sea front bungalows waiting quietly. In a way is Chapwani just like any other stunning beach on Zanzibar. But with some advantages:
- 100 000 fruit bats flying in the evening ( could watch it over and over again
- Eye contact with the shy dik dik ( mini antelope)
- Possible to swim all alone
- 20 min by boat from Stone Town allowing for frequent visits and sunset roof top dinners
The lodge is self is nothing spectacular but the quietness, the natural pool on the East side, the sunbed 1 m from the sea is. And staff is super friendly and welcoming. Especially we appreciated the walks in the little forest inhabited by fruit bats ( making a terrible but interesting sound) as well as dik dik. We saw many- we think. It could also have been thee same ones returning as they are super fast. But the 1 minute eye contact I had with one was a rare and appreciated occasion.
So who would love Chapwani?
You who want both want beach and Stone Town.
You who want to really relax
You who likes wild life ( I could watch the bats over and over again)
