The Rock, Bwejuu/Pingwe

Just a rock- and a restaurant. If high tide they pick you up by boat. If low you walk. Very cool view!

Upendo, Bwejuu/Pingwe

Soulful and sexy and tasty food presented in themes: Indian, Japanese, Spanish etc. All with an interesting Swahili touch. The Rock just 40 m away offers a great view and cool pictures. Sundays are extra soulful with music and chill out.

ZANZIBAR COFFEE HOUSE, Stone Town

Here you go for great coffee, big cakes and happy smiles. The lunch menu is tasty and made with love. Twice a week you can attend their coffee roasting with beans from their own plantation on mainland Tanzania.

The Secret Garden, Stone Town

A different dinner experience in between the walls at an old house interconnecting to the pride of Zanzibar- Emerson Spice.  A la carte Swahili BBQ.

Zanzibar Retreat, Matemwe

With great care for details and cooking- this is were we go for a real treat. Would rate it as one of the best restaurants on the island- much because of its consistency

Abyssinian Maritime, Stone Town

Ethiopian, shared eating on big try with typical Ethiopian jeera bread and many dishes to share. Do not miss the Ethiopian coffee coming with charcoal and pop corn.

Forodhani park

…and then of course the local food court, not to be missed in the evening! More for the experience then the food. Try tea Chai, something cooked in front of your eyes and hot, such as  shwarma or Zanzibar pizza.

EAT YOUR WAY THROUGH STONE TOWN

BREAKFAST: Stone Town Café. Open from 8 am ( even earlier) with great break fast menu and fresh grounded coffee served in a lovely pot-and nice proper coffee cups.

11.00 COFFEE: Zanzibar Coffee House. Choose to sit on their breezy roof top or enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere at the ground floor. Coffee of course- but also zesty juices. And yummie cakes Bring home some of their ( pricey but well worth it) own coffee beans.

LUNCH: The lunch at Emerson on Hurumzi is the best in town- as it is a whole experience. For the food itself, their great waiters, the view and the atmosphere.

AFTERNOON:  After a day in town you need the breeze by the sea. Our favorite, because of its amazing cappuccino and mouthwatering fresh passion juice, is Café Foro in Fordhani. The first of the coffee shops if coming from the shopping area

SUNSET ROOF TOP DRINK: Swahili House is on the top-3 roof top list because of its great view and atmosphere at the evening call for prayer. Sunset happy hour too!

DINNER: It is hard to choose the evening spot on the list of best Zanzibar restaurants but we are never disappointed when visiting the Ethiopian Restaurant: Abyssinian Maritim. It is just so cozy and the flavors are different from other ways of cooking. And they have lots of supertasty vegetarian dishes. And lamb, chicken, beef….hard to choose. But with the combination of a roof top sunset and a stroll through town you end up with the perfect evening. Chakula chema!
