On this Spice Tour to the pioneering and most authentic farm “Abeids” you will gain insight to the local life and find tropical fruits, spices and rare species of plants. Depending on the season you will see and taste vanilla, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric, lemon grass, cloves, ylang ylang, cumin, garlic, ginger, coriander, pepper, tamarind, chili, oregano and many others. Learn about the properties and origins of each spice, and their use as medicines or in food and drink. Be sure to smell and taste everything.
Since 16th century
Zanzibar was once one of the world’s leading exporters and producers of spices. The spice trade was introduced to Zanzibar by Portuguese traders in the 16th century, and then continued by other colonialists down the line. Today still clove is an important spice that is being grown and traded.
Before you go back you will enjoy a tasty lunch cooked by the women on the farm cooked with raw material from the family´s plantation.
